Thailand Drone Registration Overview
Bringing a drone to Thailand is easy. Flying it legally is where the process becomes complicated.
For most travelers bringing a camera drone, Thailand drone registration involves more than one authority workflow. The aviation side is handled through CAAT, while the radio/device side is handled through NBTC. On top of that, travelers also need to deal with insurance documentation, drone serial numbers, passport details, Thai mobile verification, arrival-related documents, and final approval processing.
That is the part many travelers only discover after they arrive.
Instead of spending your first days in Thailand trying to understand government portals, registration requirements, payment steps, document uploads, insurance paperwork, and account verification workflows, DroneClear manages the process through one structured full-service system.
For a broader overview of operational rules, review our Thailand Drone Rules page. Travelers still planning their trip should also review Bringing a Drone to Thailand before departure.
Why Thailand Drone Registration Feels Complicated
The process is not difficult because of one single form. It becomes frustrating because the requirements are fragmented across different systems, different authority workflows, and different stages before and after arrival.
CAAT registration handles the aviation side of drone operation. The CAAT workflow includes pilot registration, drone information, insurance documentation, account verification, and the pilot knowledge test. Inside the UAS portal, applicants complete a 40-question test with a 40-minute total exam time and a 75% passing score requirement. If the score is not high enough, the system only allows another attempt the following day.
NBTC registration is separate. NBTC handles the radio/device registration side of the drone. For travelers entering Thailand with a drone, the NBTC workflow includes passport details, drone and controller serial numbers, Thailand address information, arrival documentation, and an immigration entry stamp connected to the temporary-import workflow.
The NBTC registration fee can also become frustrating for foreign travelers without Thai banking access because the payment workflow is tied to Thai payment infrastructure.
Drone insurance adds another layer. CAAT registration requires suitable insurance documentation before the workflow can move forward. DroneClear offers insurance options separately through the Drone Insurance Thailand page, with pricing based on drone weight.
What DroneClear Manages for you
DroneClear was built for travelers who do not want to become experts in Thai drone registration before their holiday.
We manage the registration workflow from onboarding through final document delivery. That includes document collection, passport and drone review, serial-number verification, CAAT workflow handling, NBTC workflow handling, insurance coordination, arrival-related registration handling, and final registration delivery.
The goal is simple:
Prepare the workflow before arrival and remove as much registration stress as possible from the traveler experience.
The main service is designed for travelers who want the CAAT and NBTC workflow handled together through one system. Current pricing and insurance options are available on the Pricing page.
CAAT Registration Thailand
CAAT is Thailand’s aviation authority and is responsible for the aviation-related side of drone registration.
The CAAT workflow includes pilot registration, drone registration, insurance documentation, identity verification, and the pilot knowledge test through the UAS portal.
The process also requires mobile verification, which is one reason why parts of the workflow are easier to complete after arrival in Thailand.
DroneClear manages the CAAT workflow as part of the full-service registration process. More detailed information is available on the dedicated CAAT Registration Thailand page.
NBTC Registration Thailand
NBTC is Thailand’s telecommunications regulator and manages the radio/device registration side of the workflow.
This includes drone and controller serial-number registration, import-related verification, arrival documentation, and payment handling connected to the drone hardware itself. For many travelers, NBTC becomes the most frustrating part of the workflow because some information only becomes available after arrival in Thailand.
DroneClear manages the NBTC workflow as part of the full-service registration process. Travelers who already completed CAAT can also choose standalone NBTC handling through the pricing page.
More details are available on the dedicated NBTC Registration Thailand page.
What Can Be Prepared Before Arrival
A large part of the Thailand drone registration workflow can be prepared before landing in Thailand.
Before arrival, DroneClear can review:
-
passport details
-
drone model information
-
drone and controller serial numbers
-
drone photos
-
insurance status
-
onboarding information
-
travel details
This reduces the risk of delays caused by incorrect serial numbers, missing insurance documents, incomplete uploads, or registration issues discovered after arrival. The remaining arrival-dependent items are handled later. For most travelers, this includes Thai mobile verification and immigration-arrival documentation connected to the NBTC workflow.
This matters because most travelers do not come to Thailand to spend their holiday dealing with registration portals, payment problems, and government admin. They want to travel, fly, create content, and enjoy the trip without dealing with the registration mess themselves.
Drone Insurance Thailand
Drone insurance is commonly part of the Thailand drone registration workflow for camera drones. DroneClear offers insurance options for drones up to 25kg, with pricing based on drone weight.
The referenced insurance commonly includes:
-
third-party bodily injury
-
third-party property damage
-
approved legal defense costs
Combined liability reference coverage is commonly up to 1,000,000 THB depending on policy terms.
Travelers who already have insurance can submit their documentation during onboarding for review. Travelers who still need insurance can add it separately through the Drone Insurance Thailand page or directly from the Pricing page.
Full-Service Thailand Drone Registration From $59
DroneClear’s full-service Thailand drone registration starts from $59 for one drone, excluding insurance. The structure is intentionally designed to keep the process clear for travelers instead of forcing customers to compare multiple overlapping service tiers.
